I don't like this check. So I have two options: Bd7 or Nbd7. I have read that Bd7 dulls the game, and I always try to play attacking chess. It would probably trade off the bishops, which I don't really want. Also, since I'm playing the Sicilian, I want to get my bishop to b7 at some point after b5. So I go with Ndb7.} Nbd7 6.Nc3 a6 {I want to get out of this pin, and I'm preparing for b5 and Bb7 in the near future.} 7.Be2 {I felt like this was pretty passive. The bishop doesn't seem to be going anywhere on the d1 h5 diagonal any time soon. I expected Ba4 b5 Bb3 looking at the weak f2 square..} e6 {I need to develop my dark-squared bishop and get castled. I could have gone with e5, but I don't feel comfortable with a knight on f5. I wouldn't want to go Be7 allowing the trade. Later on we see this knight is a huge piece and remains impossible to kick--looking back, I should have gone e5.} 8.Be3 h6 {f4 and g4 are starting to look scary, and I decide I need some sort of defense ready.} 9.f3 {This looks weakening as it opens up the e1-h4 diagonal on the king. I think about sacrifices like Ne4 takes and Qh4+, but g3 and I'm just losing.} h5 {However, I do think that I've annoyed him a bit and see if I can get more out of it by advancing some more. Maybe I could plop a piece down over there sometime. I'm far behind on development and need to make room for pieces to come out.} 10.Qd2 {Trying to take advantage of the weak g5 square.} Qc7 {I'm expecting white to long castle, and I have dreams of b5, Bb7, and Rc8 with a strong attack towards the king. Later on, I almost get there.} 11.O-O-O {Hey, it happened. Still, I would need to remove the two knights and the queen. I think about d5 and e5 now. e5 would again put the knight on f5 which I don't like. Again, I absolutely should have done it because the e5 break gets difficult after f4 comes. d5 I dislike because I'll end up with a IQP, and there's a knight right in front of it already so it's going nowhere.} b6 {I hope to get some more development in with Bb7 later, putting pressure on the e4 pawn.} 12.h3 {Didn't expect this at all.} h4 {This really seemed like the only move to me. It weakens the dark squares so much. I see that I can get a knight on g3 with Nh5 Ng3, but he has simply Bf2 so I don't go for it immediately and rather try to prevent Bf2.} 13.a3 {I had no idea what this move was doing at the time, but later on it makes it nearly impossible to get the knight on c3 out of the way for an attack down the c-file.} Bb7 {Continue with my plan.} 14.Kb1 Nh5 {I had e5 as an option which I think I should have done, but on the other hand he now has a lot of pressure down the d-file and would get d6.} 15.Bf2 {I guess I was hoping he wouldn't make this move. Silly, of course. Now I'm not sure what my knight is doing over on h5.} Be7 {Finally develop this piece to maybe get castled. I completely over look f4 and I'm probably just falling apart now.} 16.f4 {It doesn't seem like any response is working. I have no breaks anymore because I waited too long. Many of my pieces are rather loose (Nh5, h4), and the pieces I do have developed aren't really attacking anything. However I see a line that I believe releases some of the pressure for me, and I play Ndf6. It gives up the h4 pawn but I get e4 with Nxe4, and he must trade knights. I end up with pressure against g2 and c2. This happens in the game.} Ndf6 17.Bxh4 {Seems like probably the best move.} Nxe4 {I feel like I'm trying to double attack the queen and bishop, but in the end it's just not good enough due to a simple miscalculation--frustrating in a 90|30 game, I should have seen this.} 18.Nxe4 Bxe4 {I maybe should have taken the bishop instead.} 19.Bxe7 {Not sure if I should take with the queen or king.} Kxe7 {I take with the king because I want to keep pressure on the c2 square. In the end, just sets up pins on my king and makes the knight impossible to kick.} 20.Bxh5 Rxh5 21.Qe2 {I cry. I've spent 2 hours of my life playing what I thought was a good game to have it fall apart because of a miscalculation. I try to work out a way to kick the knight so I can attack c2, but I can't do that and keep my bishop, so the attack would never work. Notice after the bishop is taken the rook on a8 is undefended.} Bg6 {I believe this is the only move. Of course, I'm still lost, but it hurt to resign so I kept it going for a bit.} 22.g4 {I actually expected f5 because I can't move my bishop, it's bad pin on the king, and it stops my rook from moving along the 5th rank.} Rc5 {A last try to get enough pressure on the c2 square.} 23.f5 {Now f5 comes, and it's just as bad. As I mentioned, I can't kick this knight because even after e5 I'm still in a pin.} Re5 {(+4.001) The engine says it was only +1.196 until here, so that makes me feel better, but I don't think I could have held it. I should have gone Bh7. But I was thinking the fxe6 and it's all over. However I missed that after f6 It's not immediately losing.} 24.Qf3 {Seals the deal. Both the bishop and rook are attacked.} {#r} 1-0
