He would hold on to the tiniest of advantages and exploit them with infinite patience and accuracy; but he was also a formidable tactician - in particular in his early years. About 1936 his style began to take on a defenisve cast, and this was the main reason why this Grandmaster never became a serious threat to Alekhine.
