(R.C)} 5.Nf3 O-O 6.h3 {I find ideas such as Bg4 (in response to Bd3) and Ng4 (in response to Be3, Qd2 battery) quite annoying so h3 seems quite good to me. (R.C)} e5 7.d5 h6 {Controlling the g5 square, creates a loft for the knight and/or king for when f5 is eventually played. (R.C)} 8.Bd3 Nbd7 9.Rb1 {b4 is met with a5 and a hole can be created on c5 for the knight. (R.C)} a5 10.b3 Nc5 11.Bc2 Ne8 12.a3 f5 13.b4 $10 axb4 14.axb4 fxe4 15.Nxe4 Nxe4 16.Bxe4 Bf5 17.Qe2 {I had spent a bit of time wonder where to put the queen; either e2 or c2 were playable with the idea of covering the bishop and the a2 square which blacks' rook would love. (R.C)} Kh7 {Trying to find cover on the h-file in order to have an eventual (semi-)open g-file for the rook. However, white has a rook still on the h-file so is probably not best. (R.C)} 18.h4 Rf7? {The idea being to bring the bishop to f8 and e7 but doesn't recognise the immediate danger. (R.C)} (18...Nf6 {The move that should probably have been played. There are a few variations though which is somewhat unclear. (R.C)} 19.Ng5+ hxg5 20.hxg5+ Nh5 (20...Kg8 21.gxf6 Qxf6 {And black stands slightly if not, much better. (R.C)}) 21.Bxf5 Rxf5 22.g4 Rf7 23.gxh5 {With an advantage for white. [Unlikely to be played] (R.C)}) 19.h5 $16 Qf6 {If 19...g5, 20. Bxf5, Rxf5, 21. Qe4 (pinning the rook) Qf6 (only move to defend) 22. g4 winning a rook} 20.hxg6+ Bxg6? 21.Ng5+ Kg8 $18 22.Nxf7 Bxf7 23.Qg4 {Threatening to take the h-pawn with either the rook or bishop. (R.C)} Kf8 24.Rh3 {Another piece joins the attack. (R.C)} h5 25.Qe2 Bh6? {Runs into a neat little combination. (R.C)} 26.Rf3 Qg7 27.Rxf7+ $18 {As after 27...Qxf7, 28. Bxh6+ and white is up a piece; or 27...Kxf7 28. Qxh5+ again, winning a piece. (R.C)} {#r} 1-0
