[Date "2016.03.10"] [White "Nigel Short"] [Black "James Watson"] [Result "1-0"] [WhiteElo "2671"] [BlackElo "1802"] [ECO "A16"] [Opening "English: Anglo-Indian, 2.Nc3"] 1.c4 Nf6 2.Nc3 c5 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 g6 6.e4 Bg7 {d6 would have brought the position back in to the mainline maroczy bind but even though this allows white e5 I knew it to be playable and was curious if the GM would play that variation} 7.Nxc6 bxc6 8.e5 Ng8 {Black gets some positional trumps such as center pawn majority and open b file, plus the knight will reroute to f5 via h6 possibly with ...h5 inserted first. In return white has more space and quicker development} 9.Bf4 {looses a pawn. White admitted after the game that they overlooked this loses material however white will still have good compensation for the pawn} Qa5 10.Qe2 d6 11.O-O-O?! {Rybika suggests Qf3 with a dead even evaluation and other moves giving black a slight pull, after this move black has a full pawns advantage, though the position is difficult to play} Bxe5?! {eager to trade down I make a couple of ill considered moves, 11...dxe5 and black is supposdly much better, here black still has half a pawns worth of advantage} 12.Bxe5 Qxe5?! {again ...dxe5 was stronger now the position is close to equal} 13.Qxe5 dxe5 14.g3 Bg4 15.Bg2 Rc8 16.Rd2 f5?? {Throws the game, until here black even has a slight pull but now the position goes from slightly better for black to an objectively lost position} 17.f3 Bh5 18.Re1 {Here as black I considered sacing a piece for 2 pawns by Bxf3 which infact may be the best move} Nf6 19.Rxe5 Rc7 20.h3 Nd7 21.Ra5 g5 22.Rxf5 h6 23.f4 Bg6 24.Ra5 gxf4 25.gxf4 Rf8 26.Rf2 e6 27.Be4 Bf5 28.Bxf5 Rxf5 29.Rxf5 exf5 30.Kc2 Nf6 31.Re2+ Kf7 {Re7 was slightly better but I was hoping for the chance to reach a rook ending} 32.Re5 Nh5!? {a creative way to facilitate exchanges} 33.Rxf5+ Kg6 34.Rc5 Nxf4 35.Nd5 Ne6 36.Nxc7 Nxc5 37.b4 Ne4 38.Ne6 Kf6 39.Nd8 c5 40.b5 Nd6 41.Kd3 Kf5 42.a4 h5 43.a5 h4 44.Nc6 Nc8 45.Ke3 Nd6 46.Kd3 Nc8 47.a6 {Here I considered resignation} Kf4 48.Nxa7 Nb6 49.Nc6 Kg3 50.a7 Kxh3 51.Ne5 Kg2 52.Nd7 Na8 53.b6 {#r} 1-0
